Week 3 of the 52 NEW Things project takes me to Del Mar and the Sublime Tavern, located off of Via de la Valle. Wednesday nights are often guys night out with my brother Ryan and our friend Bill. Bill lives in Solana Beach and so this week, we wanted to try something new (the goal of this project every week) that was closer to him since he often ventures south to PB or the city to meet up. We were later joined by his friend Rob.
According to their website, Sublime is "Home of craft beers and gourmet comfort food. We pride ourselves in fresh, local flavors, and presenting only the finest beer and wine selections in the world."
Located on the 2nd level of a funky office complex (it seemed a strange location for a tavern!), Sublime had a great, relaxed vibe with tables made from reconditioned wood, an impressive craft beer selection, and food that lived up to it's 4-star Yelp rating. I had read about their "Sublime Mac and Cheese", so of course we had to try to that, along with a pizza, which are half-price on Wednesday nights. All were excellent and served quickly by an attentive staff. I had a tasting flight of beer, the "Dark and Mysterious" flight that included a Belgian quad, a porter, a pumpkin stout, and it was a perfect compliment to dinner. Overall our visit to Sublime was a big success; I'd definitely go back!
